Abbott Lodge Farm is a working dairy farm just off the A6, near Junction 40 of the M6. I went because the ice cream parlour is in an old engine house where horses were used to drive the threshing machinery in the barn. In this area, I gather it’s called a “gin case”. I was also allowed to see the great barn. In this area barns were built for crops and livestock, with a hay loft above the byres. You will only be able to see the outside, but if you’re in the area on holiday, it’s well worth visiting for their delicious ice cream.
