Carlisle Tithe Barn is unusual in a number of ways; it was built inside the Abbey precincts, which are themselves inside the city, so it is very easy to find; and when built, the South Side was completely open. It has endured many vicissitudes in its history, but in 1968 the vicar and congregation of St. Cuthbert's Church began to raise funds for its restoration as a parish hall. This was completed in May 1971. It is now used by many congregations, and if you want to admire its great cruck framework, they hold a coffee morning, open to the public, every Friday morning.
