Barn at Museum of Kent Life

The Barn was built at Vale Farm near Calcott, north of Canterbury.  It was rescued from vandalism and neglect in 1984 and re-built at Kent Life in 1989.

It is a typical timber-framed, aisled barn. It has a single midstrey and a thatched roof with the typical, cantilevered, wagon porch. It shows the continuity of design and structure in Kent from the middle ages to the eighteenth century when it was built.

Originally used to display agricultural machinery, it now houses a coffee bar and soft play area.
