Whirlow Hall Farm Cruck Barn,
Yorkshire

Whirlow Hall Farm is a Charitable Trust which provides opportunities for children to experience a real working farm. When I visited, there were groups of young people learning to split wood, caring fro the stock and preparing to go horse riding.

The trust was set up by Alan Aikin in 1979. He was a city kid, evacuated to the countryside during the World War II. He was so affected by the experience that years later he set up the trust so that children in Sheffield would have the same opportunity to experience the countryside.

The cruck barn has only one pair of surviving crucks which can be seen above a later partition wall in the cafe which is open to the public.
