Cefn-Machllys, Wales

I am always impressed by the people who take on the preservation or restoration of farmsteads and barns. At Cefn-Machllys, the owners are restring the farmhouse and outbuildings, including this fine threshing barn. The buildings are mainly of local, coursed rubble with the traditional lime wash for protection. The roofs are either slate or corrugated iron.

The visit was with the Historic Farm Buildings Group. The owners provided us with tea and biscuits on a rather damp day. Many thanks to them and their hard work in restoring this traditional, Welsh farmstead.
