Lindwaylane Farm Cruck Barn

At one time there would have been hundreds of barns like this in the Amber Valley and north Derbyshire. But now few remain, the rest have either been converted to holiday cottages or have succumbed to the time, weather and neglect.

The cruck barn at Lindwaylane Farm was repaired in the 1980s to accommodate the new owners herd of dairy goats. It has been well maintained since that time and still performs the function for which it was purchased. It stands on a steep slope above the farmhouse. A heavy stone bulwark and brick buttresses reinforce the downslope sides. Inside it has four full crucks with most of their original purlins and arched wind-braces.
