Lindwaylane Farm Cruck Barn,
Derbyshire

At one time there would have been hundreds of threshing barns like this in Derbyshire. Now only a few remain, the rest have either been converted to holiday cottages or have succumbed to the ravages of time, weather and neglect.

The cruck barn at Lindwaylane Farm was repaired in the 1980s to accommodate the new owner’s herd of goats. It has been well maintained since that time and still performs the function for which it was purchased. It stands on a steep slope above the farmhouse. A heavy stone bulwark and brick buttresses reinforce the downslope sides. Inside it has four full crucks with most of their original purlins and arched wind-braces.
