Prince’s Manor Farm, Harwell,
Oxfordshire

There are two large, timber-framed, aisled barns at Prince’s Manor Farm in Harwell, Oxfordshire. They are set at right angles to each other and both have queen post roof trusses with short queen posts supporting a lower pair of purlins and taller queen posts supporting a collar beam beneath the upper pair of purlins. They have half-hipped clay tiled roofs and a central midstrey and wagon porch.

They are still part of a working farm, but the owner had them restored and converted to offices. He was very hospitable when I visited, and not only gave me permission to photograph the barns (subject to the consent of his tenants) but also gave me some photographs of the restoration.

The conversion from agricultural to office use has not destoyed the integrity of the buildings and you can still clearly see the original structure. They are now in splendid condition and are another example of private individuals caring for our rural heritage.
